We were supposed to paint along with Bob Ross? Huh? Well, apparently I missed the point entirely. I thought it was an art appreciation show where we watched Bob do his thing while eating a peanut butter and jelly sandwich.
Peanut butter sandwiches! There’s something everyone likes, at least in some form. Even people who have allergies would like them if they could have them.
I just had a peanut butter sandwich with raw honey (unprocessed) that I got from a local beekeeper. It was awesome! Raw honey might not be mainstream, but it’s pretty awesome. Even better with peanut butter!
Best ones would probably be natural peanut butter with sliced bananas or strawberries. Or maybe that mixed chocolate peanut butter stuff they sell now. On one slice of whole-grain raisin bread, toasted.
I don’t remember the last time I had a peanut butter sandwich. Cutting down on carbs is NOT one of those things that everyone likes.
I hate peanut butter and jelly sandwiches in every form. I’ve never known a single adult that eats them. (To head off what I’m sure is coming next–enraged replies from people with a religious attachment to PB&J–I’m just speaking for myself and the people I’ve known.)
My pick for something everyone likes is: pretty girls. Even other girls like pretty girls.
Have you never known a girl who hated pretty girls out of jealousy?
Interesting how most of the replies were food and weather. Followed by music. We’re simple people. (Those are the ones I thought of too).
Then I thought about it and much of the low-level disagreements with other people we have involve food and music. If you don’t believe me mention carbs or organics or Kanye or Dylan to a room full of people and watch fights break out. Even weather – if something as objectively cool as the eclipse couldn’t bring people together without that one person who has to let everyone know what a contrarian they are.
So I’m going in a different direction.
Having people you admire respect you.
Believing your life matters to the world.
Actually, I think it’d be very easy to make a great All-Star team of current players who everyone doesn’t just like, but love:
SS Lindor (or Correa)
3B Turner (I know some women don’t like his hair)
Does anyone *not* love every single one of these players? (Goldschmidt may not be quite beloved enough for this list.)
Sure. Expand that to good-looking people in general. Who doesn’t like looking at Cristian Ronaldo or any pro athlete who also models?
People like beauty. Except it makes people feel insecure or inadequate about themselves. But that depends on context.
So yes, beautiful people count.
Sorry I put my comment in the wrong place.
I think everyone likes Granderson. And McCutchen. And Bartolo. I think everyone respects Kershaw’s otherworldly skill but doesn’t he have a rep as a poor sport with some people?
I don’t like Justin Turner. I hate that effing guy. Career OPS+ of 95 for the Mets (and that was through his Age 28 season) and suddenly he’s one of the best hitters in baseball for his Age 29-32 seasons?
My son, age almost-four, woke up from a nap and came out to the living room, where I was watching old Joys of Painting episodes on Netflix. He now will still occasionally ask “to watch the painting” together.
Bob Ross is awesome. (And so is peanut butter – with jelly, with honey, with bacon – yes really – with bananas a-la Elvis…)
