Too funny. I’m already stealing some of these words.

But Jeterate?? Ahem.

In the likely event this is a play on the Yankee captain allow me to stick up for him.

First, I must acknowledge that I have pulled icicles off my gutter with warmer personalities than Jeter.

But – on the diamond the man is worthy of every praise thrown his way. Number cruncher exercise: What is Jeter’s average in innings 6-9 of a close game?? What is his post season average in those circumstances??

As I like to say to statistic mongers who dog on Jeter: All the man does is change games. He will go 0-4 with a walk in the ninth inning – steal second – and come home with the winning run. His talent defies a box score.

Is there a term for the opposite of jeterate?

To disparage someone for something which he or she is entirely unworthy of disparagement?

For example, how Frank Thomas used to take criticism for walking too much, or how Ismael Valdez was criticized for caring about his ERA too much?
