I couldn't disagree with you more, Nancy. I thought that article brilliantly captured what it feels like to be a die-hard sports fan in a town that specializes in crushing the hopes and dreams of its fans. I'm from Buffalo, and if someone wrote a piece on the sports scene and didn't mention the 4 straight Super Bowl losses, the Music City Forward Lateral, er, Miracle, the skate in the crease, all the way to the surreal misery of watching our "hero" O.J. in a low-speed "chase," well then they're kind of ignoring the seminal moments in our city's sports history. It wouldn't be honest...it would just be propaganda with no heart. I don't think Joe's point was delighting in misery, but rather celebrating that people (like him) still care too much, and still dare to let a tiny little speck of themselves believe, despite the constant thought that this could (and probably will) turn out terribly. That article wasn't "negative, cynical, and smug rhetoric;" it was a love letter...just framed less along the lines of "shall i compare thee to a summer's day?" and more "my lover's eyes are nothing like the sun." Beautifully written, Joe!

Mr. Posnanski,

After reading your SI story about LeBron James, The Cleveland Cavaliers and the NBA Conference Finals, I suggest that you change your name.

Take the "POS" off - switch it to "NEG". Joe NEGnanski. I could barely stomach reading your article. The relentless attacks on the City of Cleveland sickened me. Bringing up worn-out cliches and stories about this town in the manner in which you did, attacks me, all that Positively Cleveland does, the city's leaders, the corporations who choose to stay here - everything.

I have walked alongside persons from other cities while they're visiting here on conferences who have said the following:

"I don't know why Cleveland gets this bad rap all the time, I think Cleveland's a jewel." (man from Minneapolis)

"I feel like I'm on a vacation. I'm having so much fun here." (woman from Charlotte)

I seldom read articles in Sports Illustrated. Today I sat down to read what I thought would be a great story about my home town and the wonderful experience Cleveland's having right now. There's passion, excitement, expectation, hope, joy going on downtown and in the hearts of Cavs fans like me. You stomped on my heart. Your final, conciliatory phrase was WAY too little, WAY too late. You have sullied and slammed this town's reputation and aspirations once more. Please go somewhere else with your negative, cynical and smug rhetoric. There are so many other "kick a man while he's down" opportunities awaiting your critical writing, Mr. Negnanski!

Mr. Posnanski:
I am a yard safety superhero. I had a yard accident that resulted in the amputation of part of my left foot. I want to throw-out the first pitch at Major League Baseball games this season to promote yard safety awareness.

Also, I am saddened by the death of Mark "The Bird" Fidrych, my favorite all-time professional baseball player. He had a profound impact on my youth and approach to life. I was a pitcher in Little League Baseball at the time that Mark Fidrych delivered a refreshing stellar rookie season. I was a huge Mark Fidrych fanatic.

In essence, Mark Fidrych had a positive impact on my development as a person and baseball player. Like 'The Bird," I developed shoulder injuries (actually a torn rotator cuff) that shortened my baseball career as well. I am a natural funny weirdo (still am today) that takes an approach of providing entertainment to make other people happy. Today, three decades later, I am Richard "Rescue Rick the Grass Cut Man" Mudrinich as a result of a tragic yard accident. Similar to the impact that Mark Fidrych had on Major League Baseball, Rescue Rick the Grass Cut Man is needed to advance yard safety awareness.

Also, Mark Fidrych did a ton of charity work. Mark Fidrych was a special bird with special talents and a special heart! Birds of a feather flock together - at least in spirit. Rest In Peace!

Be yard safe! I want to throw a first-pitch for yard safety!

Re: SI story on Albert. Love your work Joe, but here you are Charlie Brown falling for Lucy holding the football. How can any writer do a "he's not on steroids" story and at least include the fact that Albert is connected with a Missouri trainer who was named by Grimsley(?) as his supplier guy? We've learned the trainers get paid by producing guys through drug use. It is a common theme of drug use in all sports.

Also, if he's so confident, why not get a blood test done on him? You can only go by the numbers and your eyes. He is a super thick dude who puts up super crazy numbers in an era. To say "I'm the clean one" requires something more that rhetoric (we've heard tha all b efore). Until a USOC or other independent lab says otherwise, you'd be totally idiotic to believe a guy like him is clean in this era.

Looking forward to the Big Red Machine book...if the '86 Mets get a book, the Machine deserves a Hardy Boys-length series...

To David Brown above:

David soccer is a great game, and so is baseball. Why no love in your heart for both? If there is a game out there that needs to be torn down it's American football!

Baseball and Soccer fans need to unite!

Hi,
I don't usually do this. (write to people online...or read people's blogs) But I have to tell you that you are possibly the most hilarious writer in the world. (yes, the world) A couple days ago I typed 'Snuggie' in Google to try to watch the commercial online (because I find it to be ridiculous and extremely entertaining) and by coincidence I click on your blog and read your thoughts about Snuggie:the blanket with sleeves. I felt like someone had read my mind! Everything you wrote was spot on! I literally almost peed myself laughing! Every now and again, I will read your comments about the Snuggie to brighten my mood. I guess mostly I am pleased that someone out there in the world shares the same sense of humour as me. Anyway, I just felt that since your blog brought me such enjoyment for a couple of weeks now, I had to let you know! Thanks and I wish you the best of luck in life!
