Saturday Book Signing
Posted: December 18th, 2009 | Filed under: Media | 27 Comments »
I have not done very many book signings for The Machine because the schedule has not really allowed it.
But I’ll be at the Zona Rosa Barnes & Noble in Kansas City Saturday at 2 p.m. for a signing — awesome timing for some holiday gift buying. I’m not sure how it will work yet, but I’m sure we’ll be able to talk a little sports, make at least a couple of Yuniesky Betancourt cracks, and send you home with the perfect gift for every single member of your family, including your Uncle Rufus who is not exactly a “reader” but will love the pictures in the middle.*
*I had to pay for those photos. It was quite the process. I’ll have to tell you all about that some other time.
Anyway, if you are anywhere within the sound of this blog … PLEASE come out. Would love to see you and, more to the point, would love to not sit blankly for an hour watching holiday shoppers walk by.
Joe,
This is from an attendee at your plaza book appearance a couple months back. I asked about reading the book as a read-aloud to my almost 9 year old reading/baseball buff of a son. Yes, you do have to apply the parental filter to a few words but we managed that just fine. Outside of that, its been just great, we’re 3 games into the world series and he’s just eating it up (as am I).
I would recommend it highly to parents of similarly interested children. The organization of the book makes for great bed time snippets. (But be prepared to filter!! It’s a book about baseball players after all.)
Thanks Joe!!
10 minutes from my house. I’ll try to bring the rugrats out. My wife was just trying to figure out what to get my dad for Christmas. The Machine it is!
I wish I lived in Kansas City. Any appearances in Chicago, possibly?
I may be within the sound of this blog, but I’m certainly not within the noise of KC. My apologies, Joe.
Will you be in Washington DC or Arlington, Texas anytime soon?
Could I please vote repeatedly for the podcast? Because it would INSTANTLY be a favorite of mine. I’m borderline begging for this to happen.
Ok, no borderline.
Hey Joe, how about a book signing in Juco sometime? Please??
To anyone unsure on getting the book, its a great read, even if you cared little about the Big Red Machine
Be honest, you are working the gift wrap counter to make a little extra money because your wife is tired of you draining the checking account on “business trips” gallivanting the country interviewing childhood baseball heroes and going to steak dinners with celebrities. But I’ll let you sign the book if it will make you feel better…
Joe, I voted “No” in the podcast poll but that is not meant to be a vote against you, but against podcasts in general. I don’t listen to them.
Though I would be more likely to listen to yours than to most others.
Yeah, we’d all hate the book signing to go like that Artie Fufkin debacle when the “Smell the Glove” album came out.
glad to see you out amongest the people, books make graet gifts, give the gift of reading.
if you are anywhere within the sound of this blog BTW whats a blog sound like?
Any chance of a signing in NYC? I’ll buy a second copy of the machine if you do.
Nate
Come to Nashville! The Reds were the most popular team here for a long time.
I’ll be there next weekend — you should reschedule.
Sincerely,
The Center of Your Universe
Re: #12: Kick this ass for a man! I’m not asking, I’m telling with this!
Hmm, and if Betancourt shows up at the book signing?
Yeah, I have to admit I’d listen to that podcast.
Just please book legit guests and don’t make it an hour of you and some random friend with nothing to say jerking around like the Simmons podcasts.
Hey Joe I would love if you made a podcast. I happen to be a fan of Simmons and yours would be much better (better ratio of baseball to NBA, mostly).
I’ll gladly listen to the podcast if you promise not to write either of those two food posts.
However, the best AIRPORT food, now that would be a good post. In fact, I think I’ll blog it myself…
when is the cleveland signing?
Can’t make it. I live in Iowa. Kill me now.
How ’bout a post about the seemingly increasing trend of advertisers changing the lyrics to a classic holiday song. Like:
Hahah!! That’s not the correct lyrics to Jingle Bells!! You’re talking about flat screen TVs!! Oh, Best Buy, you’ve done it again!! Egg Nog for everyone!!
Can we get consensus that this is soul-suckingly awful?? Is this akin to Costanza suggesting his “Big Toe Captain” gag be added to Seinfeld’s set??
I would come to the signing, but ESPN with their “Green Game” has just convinced me to never drive my car again.
Would love to come, but I live in Maryland. Come to Baltimore sometime!
I’ll let you sign my book if you come to Boulder.
Thanks, Joe.
Will the podcast be as good as the radio show?
So, it’s kind of a hick town, but any chance of coming to Springfield, MO? Probably not a lot of Reds fans here, but you can be sure at least one person would be there. Besides, there’d probably be enough Cards fans who would come out just to talk about Stan the Man for an hour.
Just got your book for Christmas and already ripped through it. Great read.
We have a similar vantage point to the 1975 season. I too was growing up in Cleveland. My dad was from Cincinnati. I remember hearing the crackling of the radio from his room as he tried to pick up the games on WLW. I became something of a fan and got to attend some games when my dad would visit back “home”. Got to see the last game at Crosley Field for what that is worth…
Thanks for an excellent book.
BTW, I would actually be interested in a book about the 1975 Cleveland Indians. There were some interesting characters on that team and, believe it or not, 2 HOFers one getting towards the end of the line and one just starting out. It would be different…
