Coming tomorrow

I’m up in Minneapolis working on a couple of Sports Illustrated stories … more on that later. But really, I just want to promote that tomorrow is our special baseball awards day. Yes, that means …
The John McCloskey Award!
The Les Sweetland Award!
The LVP!
You can probably figure out pretty quickly what those awards mean. I’m debating whether to put them all up at once or to spread them out over the day. What do you think?
Oh, and while you’re at it, yes, it has been a long time since I’ve promoted this. Makes a great holiday gift. Let’s move that Amazon number a little bit, eh?
Circle Me Excited!
Three separate posts! I like to check this site from work sometimes, but I don’t like to spend more than a few minutes at a time. I can waste 5 mins three times a day, but I feel bad wasting 15 mins once
The “eh?” at the end is because you are in Minnesota?
I vote for releasing all awards at once. We are an impatient lot.
A couple of us Minnesotans do say “eh?” every once in a while….but only to mock the stereotype ourselves.* A fake Scandinavian accent usually accompanies the vocabulary.
* Or we’re just mocking Canada.
Just got the book yesterday, loving it so far. Keep up the greatness, Joe.
In minneapolis? Could you possibly be researching the new Twin’s stadium…?
LVP
Gee, I wonder who’s gonna win that one? (chuckle, chuckle)
@7 Milton Bradley, duh.
The Les Sweetland Award, eh? Why do I sense that Luke Hochevar will be prominently involved?
Did you get to go to any of the places I suggested? If you’re jonesing for a late night burrito, check out Burrito Loco. They also deliver if you’re within their delivery area.
I just finished the book. The part about Lil’ Joe at Wagner’s funeral was depressing but unsurprising. My only regret is that I bought it in a tradional bookstore and didn’t move the amazon number. Sorry.
As I was reading the book, I kept thinking back to the Pete Rose I remember from my childhood. That was the guy who said he’d walk through hell to play baseball and acted as if he believed it. But Rose was always a guy who knew how to play the media. My question in looking back was whether that enthusiasm was genuine or as fake as Steve Garvey’s false front. The book certainly doesn’t answer that question, but suggests that passion was and remains real, making his downfall all the more a tragedy.
I’ll buy it today if you’re doing a book signing while in Mpls.
I’m with Algonad. I’ll buy two, you sign one for me and I’ll sign one for you, Joe. Deal? deal.
Welcome to Mpls, our SABR group will buy you breakfast Sat. morning if you’re still here.
What?! A Minneapolis trip and no book signing??
Just so you know, La Velle E. Neal III from the Star Tribune gave a very brief advertisement and positive recommendation of The Machine today on his Strib blog. http://blogs2.startribune.com/blogs/neal/2009/11/19/back-on-the-grid/
I’m sure there are other sports than baseball you could possibly be writing about up in Minnesota. But no one cares about those, right? Here’s hoping for an homage piece to our newly crowned AL MVP.
