Movie Line Quiz

I love movie lines. But I don’t love FAMOUS movie lines. I know that’s weird, but to me once movie lines are quoted and quoted and quoted again, they can lose their magic even if they’re the greatest lines in the world.
So — here is a quiz of not so famous movie lines. But lines I love for various reasons. Take the quiz, if you like — all you have to do is pick the movie the line comes from.
Don’t circle me.
I got a lot of them by guessing. The Spinal Tap line is actually one of my favorite lines from the movie, though; that’s one I could’ve come up with totally offhand.
Thank you for smoking may be the greatest movie I never want to see a second time.
There’s a topic for you.
Best movie to see only once because each subsequent viewing becomes less interesting. I think you’d have to stick with comedies. Obviously a suspense thriller is less interesting once you know who the killer is.
It’s “champagne”. Champaign is a town in Illinois.
After the quiz, the message was: “Your response have been rated as ‘good.’
That could be a funny line from a little-known movie.
“Just passed”
I thought I had the day off from class.
“You know the guy who can pick up any girl? I’m him. On crack.” — Nick Naylor
“You scored 4 out of 11.
Your performance have been rated as ‘Failed’”
Shouldn’t that be FAIL
And hey, I’d take a .364 batting average any day of the week. Yes.
8 out of 11. Sweet.
LOVE The Sure Thing. Easily my favorite John Cusack film.
Phil (#4): Champaign is also a county in Ohio (county seat: Urbana). Having moved to central OH from Champaign/Urbana, IL, I always got a kick out of that.
4/11 – Failed
In my defense, I accidentaly hit the wrong cicle on one, so I should have gotten 5…which I assume is still failed.
Very disappointed in myself.
6 out of 11. At least I got the Spinal Tap and Bull Durham ones immediately. Anyone, by local cinema is showing The Godfather tonight, so I’m off to see it (again) in an hour. Woohoo!
9 of 11, a.k.a. “Very Good”. I’ll take that, especially since I guessed on two of the ones I got right.
Pet peeve. There is no such movie as ‘Godfather I’, it’s ‘Godfather’.
Just one of the guys is my guilty pleasure movie. Knew that one right away.
For some reason, I love the “girl dresses as guy” movies.
5/11 – Pretty good since I guessed on all but the Star Wars one, and I almost went with a couple others but changed my mind. I haven’t even heard of a lot of those movies. Too young I suppose.
I do love random movie (and TV) quotes all the time. I always say things in conversation that are from movies or TV or something and wait to see if anyone catches it. If it’s obscure enough and someone gets it, it’s a great moment.
6 of 11. Better than I thought, actually…
11 out of 11 You have been rated ‘unbeatable’.
So what do I win?
I can’t believe I didn’t get the Casablanca one. That has more not-so-famous great lines than any other movie.
7/11 – yup, that’s me, “competent.”
Though, I do take issue with quote #1 – I think that is *very* famous. At least amongst us here in the Italian-American community b/t the ages of 27-32. That was mine and my brother’s favorite lines from either of the 2 Godfathers, by far. I try to quote that line at least 4 times a week . . .
6/11 – Three known cold; three hunches – played one where I wasn’t sure, skipped the other two under the foolish assumption that I would have been certain if the hunch was right, then 2 out of 5 from blind guessing.
6/11. Not bad, considering my memory ain’t what it used to be. Although, the line from “Just One of the Boys” was immediately recognizable.
9 out of 11 just got me “very good.” C’mon!
I think 7 of 11 should make me “Like any other man, only more so.”
You scored 10 out of 11.
Your performance have been rated as ‘Excellent’
The one I missed?
“I told you I’d outrun them … don’t everyone thank me at once.”
The choice of three movies I’ve seen once in my life and didn’t care for, and one I’ve never seen. I guessed poorly.
Second guessed myself on two and ended up with a disappointing 7/11 – We will never forget.
A second “hell yeah” for the “all balls itch — it’s a fact” line. Love that movie, and that line is classic. Really, a seminal moment for me (I’m 28).
I’m in awe over the awesomeness of your movie knowledge.
i’m going up staris right now and inform my wife i have been deemed ‘Satisfactory’
5/11
Once again, I prove to myself that if I don’t know the answer for sure, I should go with my gut. Those were the ones I got right, and all of the ones I over-thought I got wrong. Including two that I knew.
I’m just proud of myself that I got the Bull Durham and Thank You For Smoking lines right.
7/11
My averageness is becoming depressing.
Eight out of 11 … I cannot believe I did not recognize the Bull Durham line.
@3, re movies you don’t want to see a second time: Schindler’s List is the greatest movie I’ve ever seen. Never ever want to see it again.
Thank You for Smoking, on the other hand, I would love to see again.
Nothing to do with the quiz, but . . .
I watched The Music Man the other night for the first time in don’t know how long. The first time we hear Gary Indiana it’s Robert Preston in a duet with Mrs Paroo; the second time it’s Ron Howard to his sister and mother.
I’d have sworn on my children’s lives that Preston and Howard sang it together. Did they? And was this scene cut from my version?
Back to the quiz. My daughter just took it, saying as she sat down, “Posnanski’s about my age; I should know these.”
6/11
Yesssss.
10/11…but got the spinal tap one wrong?!? automatic 10 point deduction since i *allegedly* love that movie, so I get a zero.
I forgot how good that “Sure Thing” quote was.
“I was in Paris with my wife once, boy am I glad she’s dead.”
I remember falling down laughing when I saw that originally.
Then the Annie Hall one in great: “I wan’t to die being torn apart by wild animals.” and then Woody says: “yeah, by squirrels”
I don’t buy or sell humans, is a very underrated and seldom quoted line from Casablanca.
I remember being drunk one nite in college and I kept repeating the “Frank Sinatra” line from Tap over and over again.
The people I was with had never seen the movie and they just thought I was a big Sinatra fan or something.
5 out of 11.
I was weirdly inclined to pick movies I’ve seen even if I couldn’t recognize the line.
I’m lousy with movie lines I guess – atleast Joe’s… 3/11 and I only really was sure of the Bull Durham and Annie Hall ones. I do not remember the Godfather II champagne line?
Notes seeing the Godfather on the Big Screen: I didn’t think James Caan’s punch could possibly miss by further than it did on TV … but it does. Involuntary laughter from throughout the auditorium.
At the risk of heresy: would it have killed them to CGI Carlo’s face a foot over to the left.
The funny thing is, I guessed at a couple from movies I haven’t seen and got them right, and missed two questions from movies I’ve seen several times (Star Wars and Casablanca). Still got 7 out of 11 and a “competent” rating!
NMark W, the Godfather II was when Pentangilini (sp?) came to Tahoe, had to wait during the the party to speak to Michael, and finally got to see him in the boathouse.
