The Machine! Available! In Canada?

Posted: September 10th, 2009 | Filed under: Baseball, Media | 19 Comments »

In short, eh … the Machine is shipping right now out of the Great White North. While supplies last.

In other book-related news … I’ll be doing a book event at the Cincinnati Reds Hall of Fame on Sept. 19 and one at the Joseph Beth Bookstore in Cincinnati on Sept. 20. More details as they become available.

And yes, I’ll try to get a real post up soon.

I picked up a copy yesterday in a Borders in Silver Spring and finished it today. Great read.

    Hey Joe,

I’ve asked you a number of times but I haven’t seen any reply, I was wondering if any of your books are available in the UK??

I can’t seem to find them in bookshops or online retailers.

    Thanks,

    Alex

Dang! I was just in Toronto. Actually it was part of vacation that was eerily similar to yours.

Can you stop by the STL on your way to Cincinatti. We can put you up at our place.

You can sign a copy of the book and your SI covers. Tried to see you during fanfest but it didn’t work out.

Anyway lets know when you will be in the Lou.

Please come to Boston in the springtime, if not sooner.

Come to Nashville; lots of Reds fans in these parts, and we’ll get you up to sing a song at Tootsie’s.

Amazon says mine won’t ship until the 21st! Why does Canada get their Poz while those pre-ordering Americans are still waiting?

    Anxiously awaiting.

  9. 9: Jim K. said at 6:30 am on September 11th, 2009:

Crap! I pre-ordered from the “other” big Canadian bookseller and they’re not shipping until next week. I suppose I could cancel there and order from amazon.ca and still have it earlier.

I’m also the guy that complained that my SI comes on Friday or Monday in the comments of Joe’s post re: the BRM excerpt. I actually didn’t get that issue until the following Tuesday (yes, after the cover date). Maybe I need to move out of the boondocks.

This has nothing to do with The Machine, which I am looking forward to reading, but a side note about the Royals. As a faithful Royals fan I annually print out a schedule and mark every win and loss. Looking at the schedule this morning, I noticed that yesterday the Royals went over .500 for a month for the first time since 12 May. Over .500 for a month…all you need to do to achieve this is win on the first day of the month, something the Royals have been incapable of all season.

Riiiiiight. I bet you’ve also got a really hot girlfriend “in Canada” that you’re totally going to go see over spring break.

Does this alleged book even exist? I bet there’s not even any such team as the “75 Reds”.

    The Associated Press

LA CROSSE, Wis. — No doubt. The nines have it. Chuck Berendes of La Crosse said he will never forget the birthday of this third child, born Wednesday on the ninth day of the nine month in the year 2009.

Nor will Berendes and his wife, Polly, forget Henry Michael’s arrival time — at 9:09 a.m. by Cesarean section at Franciscan Skemp Medical Center in La Crosse.

But they got the biggest laugh when the newborn was placed on the delivery room scale following his birth. Berendes said it was metric scale so the doctor did the math in his head, but to make sure, he had the nurse also do the conversion. Berendes said they broke into laughter when the nurse told them Henry weighed 9 pounds, 9 ounces.

Brian, ghawk: heheheheheh. bonus points for carrying the riff along. Well played.

Maybe Canada is on the other side of the International Book Release Line. It’s already 9/15 up there. They have Thanksgiving early, too, so why not?

Random #12: Neat story even if the birth was by C-Section. I hope the birthing team didn’t place a huge clock next to the mother and only get busy removing the rather big baby @ 9:08am.

If this child does not wear a #9 jersey in youth soccer or Little League an investigation might be warranted!

What language is the Canadian book printed in? Is it in Canadian?

  18. 18: Kevin Smith said at 4:29 pm on September 14th, 2009:

Picked up my copy today. One thing I have to say is a little odd, is on the back of the book it has the quotes people gave for The Soul of Baseball, not this book.

You can use a parcel forwarding company. Companies like Shipito allow you to purchase online and have those purchases forwarded anywhere in the world and the costs are not much more than you would normally pay to have it shipped internationally.
