Headset Hotties

Many times I will get interviewed by someone who wants me to bash the Internet. Put those bloggers back in their mother’s basement where they blog. Rip those people who have turned the Information Superhighway into a long trail of insults and swear words and misssspelinggs and RIdiculOus CapitALIZation and all those other things that are tearing away at the American spirit.
Of course, I try not to say or do any of that because I don’t believe any of that, because I believe the Internet is a big thing filled with the best and worst, smartest and dumbest, most clever and most vile stuff. Just like every other platform.
And anyway, how can you knock any platform that has a site like Headset Hotties.

And yes, that site is perfectly safe for work. It’s a site that literally has found all the online ads trying to sell you stuff and trying to show their trustworthiness by featuring attractive women (and men) who are wearing headsets. Maybe I’m wrong. But I think this site, in addition to being hilarious, says as much about where we live and who we are than just about anything you might find in your local bookstore.
At least until 09/09/09.*
*Several Brilliant Readers have asked if the actual release date is 09/09/09 or, as they say at Amazon and Barnes & Noble, 09/15/09. I’m told that my book release is a “soft release date” which means that … well, honestly I don’t know what it means. The release date is just kind of sketchy, I guess, probably because this isn’t exactly like the release of the new Dan Brown book. I’m hoping that books will be in stores and in the mail on 09/09/09. But I guess there’s a chance that there will be a six-day lag … maybe so the book doesn’t go head up against the Beatles. I’ll keep you updated.

I’ve preordered The Machine and Beatles Rock band and I hope The Machine arrives first.
I like how there is one chick who shows up all the time. Its like she’s made a career out of modeling with a headset.
Why the delay? Is there overlap with the Beatles and the BRM? They both played at Shea Stadium … can’t think of too much there.
I’d move it up instead. How about Sept. 7, the day they clinched the NL West?
Spud: Excellent idea…Unfortunately that’s Labor Day and we can’t expect too much labor to be used on the day of celebrated holiday.
Joe, I’ve noticed several times in the past couple of years that our bookstores in Joplin get many books up to 10 days before they’re supposed to hit stores…needless to say, I’m trying to hit them all at least every other day. (My birthday gift cards are burning a hole in my pocket) I know I could just call or go in and pre-order, but I just like the thought of walking in and feeling like I’m doing something I’m not supposed to do.
So, is your blog still on standard time or is it set for Mountain Time? Or am I just really dumb and tired and forgetting how to read a digital timestamp? (Everything is an hour behind for me)
I think your link killed the headset hotties site.
“Site Temporarily Unavailable”
They must be with Hostmonster.
When does the Baseball Hero video game edition of The Machine come out?
Clicking merrily on the link, I got an “AT&T Toolbar Possible Fraud WARNING!” with the following rejoinder: “The requested website…is part of a network reserved for home computers and is possibly involved in fraud.”
I can’t believe none of the headset hotties are wearing snuggies!
I dub “headsethotties.com” the Anti-Google.
Whoa, is this a shameless plug??
I think it is.
I’m proud of you Joe, this is a big step in your own self-promoting efforts!!
I think you should call Boras and see if he’ll be your agent for your next book deal.
I say push it back to September 11th. I hear that’s a good luck date.
Just got my notification from Buy.com that my book got shipped today! Should be here by 09/09/09.
A soft opening. Like an out-of-town weekend. But in-town.

Hi Joe, I work at a bookstore and can hopefully answer your questions about release dates.
The grand majority of books don’t have a “street date” to go on sale. Publisher prints them, ships them off, we get them and shelve them, whenever it might be that they arrive. If you see a date listed, such as 9/15/09 for “The Machine”, it means your book, in general, will be out in the latter half of September. If they would have told you something like 9/1/09, they would have meant the earlier half of the month. That’s what they mean by “soft release date”.
“Street dates” are more for “rock star” level authors (Dan Brown, as you mentioned) where their latest is to go on sale on a particular date. Sanctions and bloodletting follows if we were to sell it before that date. (Not that your not a rock star, Joe, at least to us readers here on your blog).
I’m keeping a watchful eye open everyday for it to show up in our stock room. Look forward to reading. I was a child in the 70’s like you and remember the Reds and the glory days of the Royals.
Joe, I have students who plan to skip class tomorrow because of Beatles Rock Band. I have lost some of their respect for planning on going to see the Dodgers and the D-backs instead of playing the most significant computer game since, er, well, Arkham Asylum, and until, uh, the next significant computer game. So yeah, Beatles Rock Band could actually be the reason for the delay. I sure hope not.
