[...] *Go back and listen again and tell me if you think the woman in red really has a “Sports Illustrated” issue to cancel. I know she was joking, but the way she said it was so unintentionally funny. I’d bet you $100 she read it off the teleprompter and somewhere her husband was sitting in a bar telling his buddies, “Yeah, she let my S.I. run out five years ago because said it cluttered up the ottoman.” … P.s. Here is the S.I. cover to which she refers. [...]

And Cleveland promptly loses game 1 to Orlando. Nicely done, Joe, you have tempted the gods and they have proven their power to you.

Like Joe, I'm a Cleveland transplant living in KC. I root for the hometown boys, yet grimaced as the featherheads coughed up a 3 run lead last night vs the Royals. When will Wedge and Shapiro get the hook?

Congrats once again. It's cool that some of us were reading your blog back when it was still a vehicle to promote The Soul of Baseball and now you are an SI cover regular. We're proud to say we knew you back when.

Joe--congrats on another cover (although I will say that the Kelly Slater article might have deserved the last one...but then again, probably less than 10% of the population knows who Kelly Slater is, so...). Can't wait to read this.

I'm from Buffalo, so I have a lot of love for Cleveland...kind of like our more attractive cousin, who's still kinda funky if you look at her from the wrong angle (but we're funky no matter the angle, so while we love her we're still jealous).

On another tangent, I just got my hands on your Soul of Baseball book. As a broke ph.d. student, if the local library don't got it, I ain't reading it....so here's hoping that they get a hold of your Machine book relatively soon after it comes out. I'm on a baseball book kick lately, and just read Summer of '42 (a near-religious experience). So your Soul book is on deck, but you're coming up after Halberstam, tough act to follow.

And finally, truer words have never been written than your take on Steve Phillips v. Carlos Beltran. My wife is a crazed Mets fan, and we have Extra Innings (or whatever that DirecTV package is called) so most of our baseball is ESPN-free...but she goes off on a rant anytime he shows up on the screen, which unfortunately is now every Sunday night. I've never been a big Miller/Morgan fan, but the SP addition is like adding a migraine headache to a previously tolerable head cold. Ugh.

At least SI understands they have the best sportswriter in the country. You should get the cover multiple times a year as good as the articles are.

Another coup for the Posnanski media dynasty!

I think they should put you, your wife and your brother on the cover of a magazine and do a story about a newspaper writer who is recording the essential demise of the newspaper industry while he, his wife and his brother all gain varying measures of celebrity. They made Kornheiser's life into a sitcom. I'm willing to bet a Posnanski's sitcom would have lasted at least enough seasons to secure a profitable syndication deal.

It definitely feels like Pittsburgh and Cleveland are both in the running to be the next city to have a quick run of championships in multiple sports. e.g. Boston

Or maybe we should make it Pennsylvania and Ohio.
