New post coming …

A new post is coming this evening, but in the meantime: I’m calling the Johan Santana no-hitter tonight. You regular brilliant readers know I’ve been calling that for more than a year … well, two innings in, zero hits, five strikeouts. Tonight’s the night.

You can follow my embarrassment on Twitter at JPosnanski.*

*Well, actually you can’t because Jimmy Rollins got a hit like 45 seconds after I made the prediction. Oh well. Johan will do it another night. A post is still coming.

I remember people predicting his demise early last season. That was amusing.

    Well, that was fun!

Sorry Joe, guess you’ll have to pin your hopes on Sidney Ponson.

As a met fan, I don’t like you nearly as much as I used to.

I was feeling this as well. Santana seemed to really have it early

Oh, and Joe, if Park throws the no-no against the Mets, I’m blaming you

Looks like an easy win for the Mets tonight, right? Johan Santana, the best pitcher in baseball, vs Chan Ho Park, he of the 8.57 ERA. (coming into the game)

Just to make it fair, Mets manager Jerry Manuel sits Fernando Tatis, who has ungodly lifetime slash stats of .583/.667/1.167 against Park, and who famously hit two grand slams in an inning against.

And to further make things fair Manuel also starts the third-string catcher the backup second baseman, and a backup rightfielder.

So of course, Park throws a no-hitter into the fifth. And of course, the Mets can’t score.

Fun fact: When Johan is pitching, the Mets offense generates an anemic .23 runs per inning. When someone else is pitching, it’s a robudt .58 runs per inning.
