Great Trivia Question

Here’s a great trivia question from brilliant reader Dante. Maybe you’ve heard this one before … I had not and it really and truly stumped me for way too long.
Here goes:
Two men were classmates at the same Division I University.
They played different sports.
They both won national championships in their sports.
They both became professionals in their sports.
They both won important MVP awards.
The last name of one is the first name of the other.
Fantastic question.
But it’s a little bit of a cheat that one of the MVPs is for a post-season event.
Still fun.
I have never heard of Fred Lynn. If I had though it would have been an excellent question.
I got it on the last hint. The time frame really helped.
Banny log up and coming? That was a lot of walks for only one run…
Excellent trivia question, very clever.
Good news, Got to hear Joe on local sports talk radio today.
Bad News, had to endure Kevin K to get to hear Joe.
That’s all well and good…but where’s Banny Log?
Come on, man. Work sucked. I’m counting on you to make my day.
(No pressure.)
They were my first thought, especially after all the extra clues, but the MVP thing kept screwing with me because I assumed it meant actual MVP of the league and not just of the championship.
i already knew it, but It’s great because the name lynn is so random. you get to think of two way sounding names like (marcus) allen before you get there.
My first guess was George Brett and Brett Hull, haha.
I was thinking Dick Allen and Alan Page, but I guess Dick never went to college.
There is some question whether Dick (“Don’t call me Richie”) or Richie (“Don’t call me Dick”) received a diploma coming out of Wampum, PA high school!
“Who is Fred Lynn Swan. I’ll take SWords for 1,000, Alex”
I love that Question! My uncle told it to me about 10 years ago when I was heading out to school at USC. I always used it to stump my like-minded sports addict friends.
the only reason I knew the answer is because one of my friends (a Steelers fan) asked me (a Red Sox fan) that very question during the last Super Bowl.
