"Rolos rule, nothing better at trying to suck out your fillings."

Yes, there is: JuJuBes. I suspect anyone here under the age of 40 has never had JuJuBes, but they were these little, hard gummy candies (see here: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Jujube_(confectionery)). They would only soften when chewed. Sometime around age 9, I had one yank an entire filling out of a molar while chewing on it.

As for Rolos, they were a favorite in my childhood and are still a favorite now; I have a roll of Rolos and a PayDay bar both sitting about two feet from me as I type this. My all-time favorite is still Baby Ruths, though I'm a great fan of Milky Way Midnights. And I've always liked dark chocolate, even as a child.

As for Snickers...I used to like Snickers, even into adulthood. But then for a year and a half, I worked at the Lunar & Planetary Institute next door to NASA/JSC in Clear Lake (southeast Houston). We had an old vending machine in the kitchen/lunch area that had exactly one kind of candy bar in it: Snickers. I have no idea why, but that was all that was ever stocked. After 18 months, I was mightily tired of Snickers. I buy one ever now and then to see if I've overcome that aversion, but I always have a hard time finishing it. ..bruce..

So I've heard little mention of Zagnut, a unique candy bar in my opinion. They seemed readily available in the mid to late 90's, at least here in K.C., but not so much now. For those who don't recall, they come in a red and yellow package and are a tannish bar made of toasted coconut and a slaggish, butterfinger-like peanut butter inside...delicious.
I must agree with the guy who said earlier to search the rural areas, cause here recently on a trip to the Ozarks, on Mo state Hwy 7 theres a small gas station that actually sells them...I got 6 last year, and 10 this year.Sadly, rarer than the Zagnut itself, is the public knowledge of this obscure but tasty treat.
I also wish to tip my hat to those who mentioned Toblerone, Milka, Cadbury eggs, and Bit o Honey(the latter two clearly pixiefoods). Ill pretend i saw nothing about those vile, untradeable PB candies that came in the orange and black for Halloween...and say that while I hated black licorice as a kid(im 30 now, if it matters) but i was a relative oddity, for i loved paydays, even at a young age. I will close by asking does anyone remember Sixlets(little multicolored chocolate pellets that came in a plasti tube) or thay chewing gum that came in a toothpaste tube? I love sixlets, but never had the gum cause my mother always said it was gross and I'd likely hate it.

PS--Sorry, but i also gotta tip my hat to Take 5, an amazing candy, but must admonish you all for regrettebly forgetting another wonderful creation...th Nutrageous bar. Ok, im done.

Joe,
The next time I see you, I shall take to you real fine dining, where I can guarantee you that Butterfinger ain't no where on the menu.

"Packed with Peanuts, Snickers really Satisfies!"

They had me at "packed with peanuts."

Which brings up Payday (my co-favorite with Butterfingers and Reese's cups), and the lost tribes of Hollywood:

Payday (still extant), Zero (hanging by a mere thread, especially since they plasticized the white chocolate coating -- it used to be kind of powdery and powerfully flavorful; my previous favorite), Hollywood (tasted EXACTLY like a chocolate sundae!), Big Pay (choco covered Payday), Milk Shake (think malted), Butternut (???), Big Time (???).

And let's not forget Sugar Daddy (hat tip to CT Mike), Sugar Mama (R.I.P.) and their little Sugar Babies -- all defiantly Pixie-ish.

Late to this particular party, but the best candy now I have not seen mentioned, and that is the Lindt's White Chocolate Truffle. It's like white chocolate filled with cake icing, and it's heaven.

In other news, Pepsi over Coke (and this is from an Atlantan who very well may lose his life over this phrase), although soda in general really doesn't appeal to me anymore.

All of these candy bars mentioned are disgusting after a little while...we have a candy stash in our office that we give away when we host events, and I've gone through love/hate stages with just about every one of em....blech.

KitKat vs. Twix? Can I just vote "Yes"?

Anyone remember those little wax tubes or shapes filled with some Kool-Aid-like liquid? Or Bottlecaps? Sweet Tart-ish candies in soft drink flavors?

For a shopping trip down Memory Lane, take a loot at:

OK...people have long abandoned this thread, but I had to chime in.

-- Josh: thanks for being the only one to point out that the perfect, unsurpassed pinnacle of peanut butter and chocolate ratio is, in fact, the Resse's peanut butter egg.

-- Heath Bar and Payday are WAAAAAY underrated here (at least on the adult side...not sure kids would like them, but, as an adult, they are the tops)

-- With all the wide-ranging and global-ish opinions offered, I can't believe that no one brought up the most perfect of all perfect candies (not a candy bar, for sure, but sublime): the Happy Hippo. I have only seen these in Italy (more correctly, I have only been to Italy and only had them outside of my trip to Italy when a co-worker brought them back from Italy...they could be Europe-wdie for all I know): they are a delicions, crisp hippo-shaped hollow wafer, dipped in chocolate at the bottom (the prone haunches of the hippo, not the rear end), which is dusted with sprinkles-like sugar. Inside the hollow hippo is filled with a delicious chocolate creme. Just perfection.
