A great moment at the Atlanta Airport … worth nothing because there simply are not that many great moments at the Atlanta airports. There were some people grumbling about the relatively long lines going into security.*
*To be honest and fair, I didn’t think the lines were long at all considering that this was the day after the Masters. In Salt Lake City, after the Olympics, I was in a line that — no kidding — stretched for almost a mile, through the airport, out the door, into the parking lot, around a couple of buildings. The lines are really long in Oakland and Phoenix too. I once saw a guy almost get into a fight in Denver because he was in the long regular security line while other pampered customers were in that first class line. “This is America!†he shouted. “We’re all supposed to be equal!†Atlanta lines are a lot better than that.
Anyway, it wasn’t especially loud grumbling, more like the “Oh great, look at this line,†kind of grumbling. Still, it was there, and one of the airport security employees happened to be walking by and he heard it. He had this great accent — maybe Jamaican — and he said, “Let me ask you something, mon. You look like you play golf, am I right?â€
The grumblers looked at him, and they were a little embarrassed. They nodded. Of course they were golfers. One looked like he was still wearing his spikes. The other one was taking practice swings. I never like when people do that in airports.
The man smiled said: “Well, then try to treat this like you do that slow, slow game. Patience, mon. You will get there.â€
I’ll bet he is a former caddie.
I thought he was going to say, “Hooray Beer!”
