Haiku Preview: AL East …

Well, I want to thank the people over at Me And Pedro for asking me to do a Royals Haiku for their Web site. Now, I can’t stop thinking Haiku. Well, with that in my I now begin baseball previews with the American League East and Haikus. I’m thinking we’ll switch up our poetry form with each division — maybe I’ll do couplets for the American League Central, then maybe limericks for the American League West, maybe Cinquains for the National League East … we’ll see how it goes. I’m a bit concerned about doing epic poems for the National League Central. Not sure I have that many rhymes about Ronny Paulino.
* * *
American League East
1. Boston Red Sox.
Schilling is blogging
Manny still being Manny
Papelbon dances
2. New York Yankees
A-Rod hits fifty
Jeter fielding arguments
Does Joba still rule?
3. Tampa Bay Rays
The Devil is gone
Who doesn’t like Scott Kazmir?
Things looking Upton.
4. Toronto Blue Jays
Scrappiness quotient
Skyrocketed with Eckstein
McGowan is key
5. Baltimore Orioles
Whither Earl Weaver
King of the three-run homer
Save Us Markakis
Posnanski’s writing
An oasis in my day
Always makes me smile
I like Scott Kazmir!
Welcome to Birmingham, Scott!
Your friend, James Andrews.
Boston or New York
Don’t matter who wins the race
Fans still obnoxious.
Oh no! Here comes Joe
Ian, Phil, Joba, look out
Your arms will fall off
I’m stuck in haiku
Thanks a lot, Joe Posnanski
There goes a day’s work
Once proud Orioles
haven’t flown for a decade
Angelos must go
Damn Yankee scion
made off-season exciting
please more Hank, we beg
Schilling shoulder pain
for 8 million, blogs, rehabs
thanks for everything
Rays look fresh, jejune?
stadium like tomb for young
dream of emergence
Jays stuck in neutral
need to start over or just
take a shot right now?
Jays go for it now!
Lots of vets, big contracts too!
Oh wait, Yanks and Sox…
Yanks and Sox at war
For hearts and minds of U.S.
Payroll means both lose
Steve… tremendous.
Ellsbury, Lowrie
15 for drew, lugo 9
why, theo, why? sigh.
Yanks and Sox on air
All the time, even on the Ocho
ESPN, stop.
Yeah, I know its wrong
Ocho has two syllables
Sorry, sorry. Splash.
When October comes
Bronx fans asking: Where’s our ace?
Pitching in Flushing
This blog does not suck
Unlike Peter Angelos
How I loathe that man
Forget the Haiku. I’m glad Joe picks the Sox to win the division but I’d be much happier with one of those “curiously long posts” explaining why.
Our park is a hole
We have been lousy for years
Name change should fix that
Why Sox win East race?
CCG guys Drew, Lugo,
Pedroia, and Lowell.
(Yeah, I need help now
Answering coworkers notes
In Haiku form too)
Why was “Devil†dropped?
Nothing to do with Satan.
“Rays†fits in haiku.
Posnanski loves sports
Always so optimistic
Royals win it all!
Hank loves to mouth off
If the young arms don’t perform
Cashman will be canned
1. Boston
Beckett wins Cy Young
Matsuzaka is a flop
Red Sox still repeat
2. New York
Joe Torre is gone
Derek Jeter still rules short
Joe Girardi smiles
3. Toronto
Vernon Wells rebounds
Shaun Marcum has nasty stuff
Jays are still in third
4. Tampa Bay
What’s wrong with Devil?
Too young to compete in East
J.P. Howell stinks
5. Baltimore
Nothing new this year
Oops, we should have kept Bedard
Looking up at East
Posnanski is dumb
if he truly believes that
the Rays beat the Jays
Stitches spin and Pop!
White ball screams until leather
Snags with a soft pluck.
(I love Spring Training!)
Only Dan’s comment
Breaks the flow of blog haiku
One stone in the pond
Hits come in bunches.
Makes Kazmir’s WHIP unseemly.
Future arm blowout.
Paulino = Stinkerino
Run with it, Joe.
Using poetry to
Write your pre-season previews?
That’s very noble.
Why not try using
Iambic pentameter
For NL Central?
Don’t like the Red Sox
after the ALCS
But they’ll dominate
Haiku! What a thrill!
Making my thoughts fit into
Three ignoble lines.
Yankees-Sox; who cares?
I no longer want to watch
Godzillas at war.
Jays and Rays have hope,
Maybe not this year, but soon;
Orioles kaput.
Mike Sweeney is gone.
El Capitan, no longer.
He now wears white shoes.
weather remains cold
please become baseball season
soon. no, now. please. please.

Reading Joe’s archive
all comments are in haiku
now that’s amazing!
